Conflict minerals: what does due diligence mean for your supply chain?

Although EU rules on conflict minerals are coming into force in 2021, it would be a mistake to think that your business must only make sure it is compliant by then. Before this date, the European Commission will be releasing numerous guidance documents and set up a transparency database that industry must be fully aware of, if it is to be prepared for the new rules. The degree of transparency and due diligence aspects of these deliverables can be daunting, especially for SMEs.

For this year’s IMPACT Europe, we have confirmed the participation of Marten Westrup, Policy Officer at the European Commission responsible for conflict minerals. Westrup will explain what output we can expect between now and 2021, and respond to any questions you might have on the new rules and the period until they become fully applicable.

Westrup will be joined by IPC member Julian Lageard, Director Corporate Government Affairs Europe, Middle East & Africa at Intel. Lageard also serves as a board member of the European Partnership for Responsible Minerals (EPRM) and will shed light on what responsible sourcing means for the supply chain and what industry can do to stay on top of the latest EU conflict minerals rules.

To help you on your path to conflict minerals compliance, IPC is updating its conflict minerals data exchange standard to meet EU requirements on responsible sourcing. Our staff will inform you at IMPACT Europe on how this standard can help you guide your due diligence efforts across the supply chain.

Join us on 28-29 November in Brussels for the third annual IMPACT Europe – your opportunity to speak directly with high level EU decision-makers, make your voice heard, and better understand future EU legislative plans.

This year’s event focuses on some of the most pressing challenges for our industry. IPC staff will also brief members about our increased investments in Europe and share our three-year plan to raise the profile of the industry and realize our policy priorities. As a member-driven organization, we want to hear your feedback and enlist your support for the ambitious goals we have set in Europe.
