The IPC J-Std-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies has emerged as the preeminent authority for electronics assembly manufacturing. The standard describes materials, methods and verification criteria for producing high quality soldered interconnections. The standard emphasizes process control and sets industry-consensus requirements for a broad range of electronic products.

IPC received hundreds of requests from companies worldwide to support this critical standard with a formal training program that recognizes individuals as qualified instructors and provides them with teaching materials. Now, IPC has an industry developed and approved comprehensive, hands-on solder training and certification program based on J-Std-001 that gives companies all the tools they need to increase employee skills and performance.

IPC’s J-Std-001 Training and Certification Program provides individuals with a valuable, portable credential that recognizes their understanding of the J-Std-001. This program is offered as a service to industry, therefore its adoption is not a precondition for any company to purchase the standard or claim that they build product to its requirements.

There is also an additional IPC J-Std-001 Space & Military Addendum training combines the Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies along with various elements to meet the standards required of NASA & Defence suppliers. Suppliers to NASA & Defence  are required to have workers trained and certified to this IPC J-Std-001 space & military course for Specialist (CIS) level training.

Duration

Certification: 4 days including exam

Recertification: 2 days including exam

Challenge test: 1 day exam

Module 1 (Mandatory) This module contains the general information about the J-STD-001, basic document use, and process requirements. The content of this section is applicable to all additional knowledge modules in the program. This module must be completed and certified before certification to any additional knowledge modules can be granted. 5 Hrs. Class 2 Hrs. Test ----------------- 7 Hrs. Total
Module 2 (Optional) This additional knowledge module begins with lecture which covers process requirements for assembly processes used to fabricate wire and terminal assemblies. The second portion of this additional knowledge module is a hands-on/Practical module in which the students receive instruction and practice for wire preparation and mounting to terminals. 2 Hrs. Class 1 Hrs. Test 4 Hrs. Lab ----------------- 7 Hrs. Total
Module 3 (Optional) This additional knowledge module begins with lecture which covers process requirements for assembly processes used to fabricate through-hole assemblies. The second portion of this additional knowledge module is a hands-on/Practical module in which the students receive instruction and practice for through-hole assemblies. 2 Hrs. Class 1 Hrs. Test 4 Hrs. Lab ----------------- 7 Hrs. Total
Module 4 (Optional) This additional knowledge module begins with lecture which covers process requirements for assembly processes used to fabricate surface mount assemblies. The second portion of this additional knowledge module is a hands-on/Practical module in which the students receive instruction and practice for surface mount assemblies. 2 Hrs. Class 1 Hrs. Test 4 Hrs. Lab ----------------- 7 Hrs. Total
Module 5 (Optional) This additional knowledge module begins with lecture which covers process requirements for assembly processes used to fabricate wires and terminals, surface mount assemblies, and through-hole assemblies. The second portion of this additional knowledge module is a hands-on/practical module in which the students receive instruction and practice for inspection of wires and terminals, surface mount assemblies, and through-hole assemblies. 2 Hrs.
