IPC/WHMA-A-620 Space & Military Addendum
The IPC/WHMA-A-620 Space & Military Addendum course is an advanced certification program for professionals involved in the manufacturing of cable and wire harness assemblies, focusing on the additional requirements necessary for space and military applications. This addendum expands on the base IPC/WHMA-A-620 Standard to address the extreme environments and reliability standards these assemblies must meet.
SPACE & MILITARY ADDENDUM TRAINING
Training to an addendum to any IPC standard is revision specific. In order to be certified to an addendum the candidate must be certified to the same revision document that is modified by the addendum (e.g. to become certified to IPC/WHMA-A-620D Space, the candidate must first be certified to IPC/WHMA-A-620D)
The IPC/WHMA-A-620 Space & Military Addendum training is intended for professionals involved in the design, production, inspection, or certification of cable and wire harness assemblies for aerospace and military applications. This training specifically addresses the additional requirements needed to meet the stringent standards and extreme environmental conditions of these industries.

- Thermal cycling durability.
- Outgassing requirements for space.
Building Cable & Wire Harness Assemblies
- Learn practical skills through hands-on cable-building exercises, including:
- Wire preparation and cutting.
- Crimping and soldering.
- Connector assembly and strain relief.
- Learn practical skills through hands-on cable-building exercises, including:
Inspection and Certification Criteria
- Learn how to inspect cable and harness assemblies to ensure compliance with space and military standards.
- Understand what constitutes acceptable and unacceptable conditions for assemblies.
Reliability and Quality Assurance
- Study best practices for manufacturing harnesses that can survive the harsh environments of space and military operations.
- Emphasis on durability, safety, and long-term performance.
Practical and Written Exam Preparation
- Prepare for and pass both the written and hands-on practical certification exams.
- Gain confidence in applying the addendum’s requirements in real-world scenarios.

Recommendations
- Register Early: As this training is only offered on limited dates, early registration is recommended to secure your spot.
- Prepare in Advance: Ensure you have mastered the basics of cable and wire harness assembly prior to attending. If necessary, consider taking a preparatory course, such as “Wire Preparation and Crimping.”
- Travel and Accommodation Planning: Make travel and accommodation arrangements well in advance, especially if attending sessions in a different country.
Validity of the Certificate
The certification term for all IPC programs are 2 years. The certification term begins on the date a candidate successfully completes all the program’s minimum certification requirements.
Certifications only reflect the expiration month and year. Certifications expire the last day of the expiration month, regardless of the day of the month the certification was granted.
Certification Renewal Period
All certification renewals may only occur within six calendar months prior to the expiration of an existing certification. When a Certificant renews their certification within 6 months of the certification expiration date, the renewed certification will be valid for an additional 2 years from the expiration date of their currently held certification.
If you would like to recertify there are three routes available for you:
- Initial certification course
- Recertification course
- Challenge Test (Exam only)
In addition, it is also recommended for many students to follow a certification course again after a recertification course and to alternate this every time.
